Abstract. This study aimed to describes students’ writing recount problem. research used descriptive method and was conducted at SMP Negeri 20 Pontianak. It revealed the most serious problem in text area of grammar. found when students wrote which applied past tense with regular or irregular verb. The second came from vocabulary aspect. happened demonstrated state main idea include choosing word that supporting text. third problems organization aspects. composed paragraph coherently. last part mechanics. down zone spelling punctuation
